What are Occupational Therapy Services?

Occupational Therapy services may be the perfect and most appropriate avenue of intervention for many older adults facing a variety of ailments, traumas, or non-related aging declines. Occupational therapy services have many crucial solutions for individuals requiring healing and can help an individual recover (whether that is to restore to prior functioning, learn new skills, or to teach an individual how to compensate/adapt to a new and permanent change).

Occupational therapy services can address a variety of needs including generalized de-conditioning due to unaddressed chronic illness, post-hospitalization rehabilitation and recovery (see a complete list of ailments OT can address by clicking here), home assessments and third party opinion regarding aging in one’s home,  and even screen/evaluate/refer for non age-related cognitive changes like dementia.

Occupational therapy practitioners are generalist clinicians with extensive training in a variety of ailments and strong skillsets in advocacy, analysis, and collaboration.

Occupational Therapy Services MAY Be Appropriate if:

You are experiencing memory changes.

If you or your loved one is experiencing alarming memory changes, occupational therapy may be able to offer you a full cognitive battery assessment and forward results to your primary care physician for your next step! Know the warning signs! The peace of mind of knowing where you fall in the cognitive spectrum in aging is priceless!

You are being discharged from the hospital without nursing.

If you or your loved one is being discharged from the hospital and you are looking for personalized and trustworthy care that may be able to help you recovery and restore your confidence and ability to accomplish your day to day tasks, home occupational therapy may be the perfect solution!

You are considering higher level of care for yourself or your loved one.

If you or your loved one may be facing obstacles living in his/her home and you believe it is time for a higher level of care or co-habiation with family–Occuaptional therapy may be able to evaluate and conduct a home occupational performance assessment partnered with a functional activity analysis to determine appropriate next steps!
